Stretching 14 miles through the Lincoln National Forest, this route roams the front rim of the Sacramento Mountains, providing astounding views of the Tularosa Basin and the ceaselessly shifting sand dunes of White Sands National Monument.
Getting to the Byway:
From Alamogordo take U.S. 54 north to U.S. 82 then head east until the road junctions with NM 130. Take U.S. 82/NM 130 south. Stay straight onto NM 6563/Sunspot Highway.
Navigating the Byway:
To drive the byway, follow NM 6563 south for 14 miles. The byway ends at Sunspot Solar Observatory.
