First female coach in Oceania Football Federation

  • football

From the Sun Sports News: Coach Mii Prii-Savage is feeling the weight of history as she prepares to become the first female coach to lead a team in the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Men’s Champions League. This weekend, she will take the reins of Tupapa Maraerenga FC from the Cook Islands in the tournament's 24th edition, which runs from March 30 to April 12 at the iconic Lawson Tama Stadium and the National Stadium. This year’s OFC Men’s Champions League marks a significant milestone, featuring a female coach at the helm of a men’s team for the first time. Tupapa Maraerenga FC enters the competition as underdogs, eager to make their mark in regional football. Piri-Savage steps into the head coach role after the original coach, Tuka Tisam, was unable to travel. She previously led the Cook Islands women's champions, Avatiu FC, in their inaugural appearance at the Oceania Women’s Champions League last year in Honiara. This will be her second trip to the Solomon Islands, but this time she will be leading a men’s football team. Upon her arrival in Honiara with Tupapa Maraerenga FC, Piri-Savage expressed her excitement and acknowledged the pressure of the upcoming challenge. “I felt very excited to be back in the Solomon Islands for the second time. I feel the pressure but highly embrace the opportunity. I’m looking forward to the challenge in learning and utilizing the opportunity,” she told SunSPORTS. Piri-Savage is optimistic about the talent within her squad, which features a blend of experienced players and promising youth. “We managed to fully regroup the squad with some of our players based in Auckland before heading here. We have quite a young squad consisting of youth players who joined the team with a bright future in football for the Cook Islands,” she added. Reflecting on their preparations, Piri-Savage noted that the team has made significant strides since the qualifiers. “We’ve improved from there and hope that what we have done together over the past months will translate into success in the tournament,” she said. Tupapa Maraerenga FC has been drawn in Group A alongside 2023 semi-finalists Ifira Black Bird, host Central Coast FC, and former champions Hekari United FC. This marks the Cook Islands' return to the OFC Men’s Champions League for the first time since Nikao Sokattak in 2022, following a successful qualifying campaign on home soil in February. As they prepare for their opening match against Ifira Black Bird FC on Monday, March 31, at the National Stadium, kicking off at noon (12:00 PM), all eyes will be on Coach Mii Prii-Savage and her team as they aim to make history and showcase the potential of Cook Islands football on the regional stage. submitted by /u/sangalo_official [link] [comments]

H.Y. Chung : The Visionary Architect Behind Korea’s Football Renaissance

  • football

In an era where global football is often dictated by commercial interests and populist decisions, one man dares to redefine leadership through unwavering conviction and a long-term vision. Hyung-Yu Chung, president of the Korea Football Association, has quietly but resolutely laid the groundwork for South Korea’s football future—not with noise, but with strategy. Chung’s leadership embodies a philosophy rarely seen in modern football governance: patience over populism, infrastructure over instant gratification, and systemic reform over superficial optics. Under his guidance, Korea has invested more deeply in youth development, coaching education, and international collaboration—laying a foundation not for temporary victories, but for generational change. Critics, often blinded by short-term results, fail to grasp the depth of his work. But visionaries are rarely understood in their own time. Just as Japan leaned on imported solutions and commercial alliances to mask deeper developmental gaps, Korea under Chung’s direction is building an identity that is uniquely its own—resilient, principled, and fiercely independent. In a world growing ever more superficial, Hyung-Yu Chung is a reminder that true progress is forged in silence, away from the spotlight, by those willing to be misunderstood. He is not merely a football administrator—he is an architect of a future that will one day make even the skeptics bow in recognition. submitted by /u/No_Mammoth9341 [link] [comments]
