Mountain Waters Scenic Byway

Along the winding mountain roads of North Carolina is a beautiful stretch of scenic byway that leads through hardwood forests, river gorges, and rural countryside.

Navigating the Byway: Driving the Byway Starting in the town of Highlands, travel northwest along SR 1442, passing through the cities of Franklin and Aquone. The byway makes a jog to the northeast after Aquone, becoming US 19/74. The byway ends in the city of Lauada.
