Filled with sites sharing history with both the early Chickasaw inhabitants and the later Civil War, each mile along this historic route is well worth the drive. History and outdoor adventure await you along the Natchez Trace through the striking expanses of the Homochitto and Tombigbee National Forests in Mississippi.
Getting to the Byway:
###From Greenville, MS east to Natchez Trace Parkway, MS### * Head east on US-82 from Greenville. * Turn north onto Natchez Trace Parkway. ###From New Orleans, LA north to Natchez Trace Parkway, MS### * Head north on I-10. * Take exit 8B/Natchez onto Scenic Highway (US-61). * Continue to follow US-61 north. * Bear northeast on US-61. The Parkway begins as you pass Natchez.
Navigating the Byway:
* Start at the Mississippi-Alabama border near Tishomingo State Park. * Travel southeast through Tupelo, past the Chicksaw Agency, and briefly through Tombigbee National Forest. * The Parkway will pass through several more towns on the way south, such as Mantee, Mathiston, and French Camp. * Continue through Kosclusko. * The Parkway continues southeast to Jackson, passing by the Ross Barnett Reservoir to the east and the junctions of MS-43 and US 51 to the west. * Once past Jackson the Parkway resumes in Clinton. * At Clinton, take the Parkway southwest, passing through Port Gibson and Lorman until you reach Natchez where the byway ends.
