I love my friend Aleeza’s cooking. When spending time with her recently, we had such a fun time cooking this vegan matzo ball soup! This recipe tastes like the traditional real deal. When I was a kid, once a month after service at my childhood temple, there would be a Friday night Shabbat dinner that always served matzo ball soup. This recipe tastes just like that memory… but it’s not that healthy. Most traditional matzo ball soup recipes include the packaged matzo ball mix, which has some not-so-healthy but vegan ingredients. I’ve seen some new healthier-looking matzo ball mixes but haven’t tried them yet. I’m determined to find a healthier way to make matzo ball soup, and get back to you when I do. But if you’re looking for one that is yummy and reminiscent of traditional matzo ball soup, this one is great. Also, keep in mind that matzo ball soup is traditionally made with eggs. In my experience when making it without an egg, the balls either fall apart or become too dense. This recipe is very tasty, and the balls are not dense, but fragile. We think the recipe and instructions below will keep them from falling apart! The good news is that even if they do fall apart, it still tastes delicious. This recipe will make a big batch so proportion as you wish! Prep time: 45 minutes | Cook time: 60 | Serves: 10 Broth Ingredients: Chop all the following ingredients into large chunks 1 celery root 1 rib celery 2 or 3 carrots 2 parsnips 1 whole onion fennel (cut into about 4 big chucks) sea salt/pepper/olive oil to taste desired spices such as onion powder, and parsley or desired garnish Matzo Ball Ingredients: preferred matzo mix egg replacer, water preferred oil Instructions: For the vegetable broth: add 10 cups of water into a saucepan, add in the onion and carrots and bring the water to a boil. Next, throw in the remaining veggies (celery root, parsnips, fennel, celery) along with desired spices and add in 1/2 teaspoon salt and pinch pepper and/or olive oil. Once boiling, simmer and cover. When the vegetables get soft (about 45 minutes-1 hour) remove them. While the broth is cooking make the matzo balls: take 4 packets of matzo mix and your chosen egg replacer (usually 1 tablespoon egg replacer to 3 tablespoons water), follow the instructions on the matzo ball mix box. Mix in the directed measurements of oil and water, but be sure to use more oil/water in addition to that listed (so that the mixture is not too dry nor too wet). This will help achieve the right consistency that we show in the video. Once thoroughly mixed, place in the refrigerator to chill for 5-20 minutes Once the balls have sufficiently chilled, roll them. When rolling, try not to make them too tight. They should be patted down into a ball shape sized to your liking (we aimed for big, about 1/4 the size of a fist). Then before adding them to the broth, make sure the vegetables have been removed. Once removed, this is the time to assess the broth and see if it needs more salt, pepper, or spices like onion powder. After removing the vegetables and checking the broth, add in the matzo balls for a total of 15 minutes: the first two minutes should be brought to a boil and the remainder of the time simmer and cover. Again, these balls are super delicate so be sure to check on them. Once the 15 minutes is up, remove the lid and take the balls out of the water and keep them separate until you are ready to eat the soup (this will help in keeping the shape). When ready to eat the soup, add in the balls and whatever garnish you prefer such as some chopped parsley. Serve and enjoy! Check out more recipes here.

I love fresh apricots! This vegan cherry apricot noodle kugel looks so good…but you know what? I don’t know that I’ve had kugel before this. How is that even possible? What is kugel? Kugel is a traditional Jewish dish that is often served during Shabbat and Jewish holidays. It is a baked casserole, primarily made from noodles or potatoes. The recipe can vary greatly depending on the regional and family traditions; it might be sweet or savory — but it almost always contains eggs and dairy, so it’s traditionally not vegan. Sweet kugel recipes often contain ingredients such as cinnamon, sugar, and sometimes fruit like apples or raisins, and are usually made with egg noodles. Savory kugels, on the other hand, typically feature potatoes, onions, and sometimes other vegetables, resembling a baked hash brown casserole. Kugel is a versatile dish that can be adapted to suit different tastes and preferences — kind of like pie. There are so many variations that you can’t go wrong! Ingredients For pudding 1 cup soymilk 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice 8 ounces fettuccini, broken in half 3 12.3-ounce packages silken tofu (not lite) 1/4 cup vegan cream cheese 1 cup sugar 2 tablespoons vegan margarine 1 tablespoon egg replacer 1 tablespoon vanilla For topping 1 16-ounce can unsweetened pie cherries 1 cup sliced dried apricots 3/4 cup sugar 1/4 teaspoon almond extract 1 tablespoon cornstarch 1 tablespoon cold water Instructions Preheat oven to 350 degrees. In a small bowl, add lemon juice to soymilk and set aside. Cook noodles according to package directions. Rinse thoroughly with cold water, and set aside, rinsing from time to time, until ready to assemble. In food processor, place tofu and blend until smooth. Add cream cheese and sugar and process. Add remaining pudding ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour tofu mixture into 9 x 13-inch glass baking pan, add cooked noodles, and mix thoroughly. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. In a medium saucepan over medium heat, place cherries and apricots. Add sugar and almond extract and bring to a low boil, stirring occasionally. In a small bowl, blend cornstarch with water and add to cherry mixture. Lower heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Uncover pudding and spread topping evenly over it. Return to oven and bake uncovered for an additional 15 minutes. Serve warm or cold. Cover and refrigerate leftovers. What traditional Jewish dishes have you successfully turned vegan?

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how often we reach for the same clothes over and over. Not because we have to, but because they just work. They feel good, they fit right, they wash well, and they’re made by people and companies I trust. For us, that’s mostly Mate the Label and Pact. Bear’s 14 now, which means he’s got a growing opinion about what he’ll wear (and what he definitely won’t). But these days, he’s practically living in his Pact long-sleeved shirts and pants. They’re soft enough that he doesn’t complain, but still look put-together. They’re perfect for school days, family dinners, and everything in between. I’ll post a few photos — he’s so cute in them, and I love how easy it is to layer when the weather’s being moody (which it always is in LA). His favorite pair of pants from Pact has that magic combination of comfort and structure — kind of like grown-up sweats but nicer. And I have to admit, I love seeing him in his Pact sweater. It’s simple and classic, and makes him look like such a gentleman. We brought it on our last trip and he wore it to dinner more than once without any nudging from me. Pact long sleeve shirt I’ve been wearing Pact for years myself; their sweatpants, socks, underwear, and scoop neck tees are all part of my regular rotation. What I appreciate most is that nothing feels fussy. It’s all made from organic cotton, no weird dyes or chemicals, and it feels like something I don’t want to take off at the end of the day. Mate the Label is another one I go back to all the time. Their pieces have this beautiful simplicity — super soft, well-made, and thoughtfully designed. NBC News reports that Townsend is currently in the Chinese tech hub of Shenzhen for the Billie Jean King Cup finals. For context, Taylor posted videos on her IG Story questioning some of the food displays at a buffet, which she revealed included bull frogs and soft-shelled turtles. Reactions to her comments has caused Townsend to take accountability. She also said she enjoys traveling and doesn’t take her career for granted.. Still, she admitted there’s no excuse for her words. “The things that I said were not representative of that at all and I just truly wanted to apologize. There is no excuse, there is no words. For me, I will be better.” Taylor said. Here’s What Taylor Said About The Food In China Before Taylor apologized, she posted several videos on social media sharing her shock and concern after seeing the food in China. Some of the dishes included turtle, sea cucumber, and bull frogs. She also got real about how LV’s reaction to the loss hurt her. Well, the viral clips caught Alabama Barker’s attention. Bama jumped into a comment section on Instagram, saying that despite their past feud, Bhabie doesn’t deserve to be treated badly. “Even though we had our differences, I don’t support the way he treats her & she doesn’t deserve it,” Alabama wrote. Bhabie and Bama went viral at the end of 2024 after Bhabie accused Bama of being involved with Le Vaughn. A cozy photo of Bama and LV sparked an ongoing feud between them. In the song, Cardi (real name Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar) opens up about her regrets over her relationship with Offset, 33. Taylor Sheridan‘s new competition show, The Road, doesn’t just feature iconic musicians including Keith Urban and Blake Shelton — the CBS series also introduces up-and-coming artists in the country music space. The Road, which premieres on October 19, follows 12 emerging musicians as they compete as opening acts for Urban at music venues across America. After performing for a live venue audience, the contestants will advance to the next city based on the reaction from the crowd. By the end of the season, only one act is left standing to take home $250,000 and a record deal. In addition to Urban, Blake Shelton serves as an executive producer and Gretchen Wilson appears in the role of Tour Manager. Whether you’re running through costume ideas or baking pumpkin bread, you’ll need a solid library of horror movies to keep you busy until October 31. Luckily, Netflix is about to add one of our faves — Cobweb, a 2023 horror movie that features some of our favorite underrated actors. The Premise Is Deceptively Simple Cobweb follows Peter (Woody Norman), a troubled eight-year-old boy whose controlling parents fail to help him manage bullying at school. When his teacher, Miss Devine (Cleopatra Coleman), becomes concerned for his well-being, she learns that he has been hearing a creepy tapping sound in the walls of his house — a fear his parents dismiss. 5 Must-Watch Summer Horror Movies, Ranked by Rotten Tomatoes Score Peter begins to hear a voice in addition to the tapping that he believes belongs to a ghost — and the ghost is pushing him to take action against his uncaring parents. Miss Devine hopes to help Peter before it’s too late, but all is not what it seems inside his house. The Cast Includes Two of Our Favorite Underrated Actors Peter’s parents, Carol and Mark, are played by Lizzy Caplan and Antony Starr, respectively. While both are reasonably successful, it’s refreshing to see them in roles so different from the ones they’re best known for. Caplan is famous for playing the kind-hearted but rebellious Janis Ian in Mean Girls, so seeing her as a mother with such a dark side is a sinister change. Starr, meanwhile, is best known for playing the psychopathic superhero Homelander on The Boys. As Mark, he hides his darkness much more subtly, acting not through violence but through neglect and repression. Caplan and Starr may not have the name recognition of some of their recent costars from projects like Fleishman Is in Trouble or The Boys, but they’re both talented, charismatic performers who elevate this film. Their performances as Mark and Carol sell the terror of the premise: As a child, your parents are supposed to keep you safe. If you can’t trust them, the world becomes a truly terrifying place. And if your parents are telling you not to trust your own senses, then what is left to believe in? Netflix Is Now Streaming This Underrated 2019 Thriller That's Addictive — and Scary The Shocking Twist Ending Will Stay With You We won’t spoil the ending of Cobweb, but rest assured that the voice within the walls is not what you’d expect. (The film holds off explaining the mystery until the last possible moment, keeping the tension as taut as it can be.) When Peter finally unravels the mysteries inside his home, the story doesn’t tie everything up with a neat bow. It’s one of those unsettling finales that lingers — leaving horror fans with that deliciously creepy “looking over your shoulder” feeling long after the credits roll. He started speaking to me in my dreams and showing me the spiritual warfare that I was going through,” Mallory said. “Every time I returned to sin, I would have a nightmare that my car was being broken into. I had a nightmare [where] I gave [the car’s] title to someone else. As the bodies pile up and the cops refuse to help her out, it’s not just Maxine’s new career that might be in jeopardy, but her life as well. Can she stop the killer before she’s his — or her — next victim? MaXXXine isn’t as scary as X or as critically acclaimed as its prequel, Pearl, but it’s a satisfying modern take on the Italian giallo subgenre that thrives in the ‘60s and ’70s. The movie convincingly recreates a Reagan-era Los Angeles filled with porn stars, prostitutes and shady studio executives, and it sports a style that faithfully recreates the horror films from that period. Best of all is Goth, who makes Maxine an anti-hero you aspire to be — even if you’re also a little afraid of her. MaXXXine is streaming on HBO Max. ‘Criminal’ (2016) A mysterious hacker known as the Dutchman (Michael Pitt) has created software that’s able to bypass any security program in the world, including those that safeguard nuclear codes. When CIA agent Bill Pope (an uncredited Ryan Reynolds) is killed trying to protect him, the Dutchman goes into hiding. To find him, the CIA uses an experimental device that allows Pope’s memories to be implanted into Jericho Stewart (Kevin Costner), a career criminal with brain damage. After the procedure, Jericho escapes prison and fakes his death, but he experiences memories of Bill’s past that lead him to continue the deceased agent’s mission to find and protect the Dutchman at all costs. 18 Must-Watch Thrillers on HBO Max Right Now (September 2025) Criminal has a lot of plot, and its sci-fi premise, which borrows liberally from the much better action movie Face/Off, is absurd. But it somehow all still works, and that’s largely due to its unusually talented cast. Costner effectively plays against type as a baddie with a heart brain of gold, while Oscar winners Gary Oldman and Tommy Lee Jones appear as Pope’s former associates who want to find the Dutchman and stop the software from getting into the wrong hands. Criminal is silly and inconsequential, but if you abandon all sense and logic, it’s a pretty fun movie to watch during the weekend. Criminal is streaming on HBO Max.

Shay, who chose not to name names, was still proud of how My Good Side was received. “I couldn’t have expected what a great reaction that everyone just had about the book. It became a New York Times best seller. It’s incredible,” she gushed. “It’s really great to just feel like so many people were able to relate to my story. They enjoyed reading it. Tracker fans who enjoy watching Justin Hartley‘s rugged character, Colter Shaw, explore the wilderness now have the opportunity to do the same. In Us Weekly‘s exclusive first look at CBS’ second collaboration with AutoCamp, Hartley teased the Tracker-themed adventures viewers can experience leading up to the season 3 premiere. “One of the best parts of starring in Tracker is being out in the wilderness. Now, you’ve got a chance to live like Colter Shaw too,” Hartley, 48, says in the announcement video. “We are partnering with AutoCamp for a special stay under the stars. Have an amazing time — and see you on the road!” Ahead of Tracker‘s return to CBS on October 19, fans have the chance to book an adventurous Tracker-experience at any AutoCamp location starting September 24, which will come with a welcome kit inspired by Colter Shaw’s time on the road. They currently have locations across the U.S — including AutoCamp Sequoia in California and AutoCamp Catskills in New York. After booking a stay at any AutoCamp until the end of October, fans will receive a Colter Shaw Welcome Kit that includes Tracker gear including a backpack, hydration bottle, flashlight, headlamp and more. There is also a Tracker blanket, camping mug and signature AutoCamp s’mores kit. Tracker, which premiered in February 2024, follows survivalist Colter as he travels the country to help find missing people, track down information on criminal cases and more. Hartley reflected on the show’s overnight success in a recent interview with Men’s Journal. “One of the things I really love about Colter and the way we’ve built him is that he doesn’t apologize for his masculinity,” Hartley said in August. “I think that’s what people are looking for. You’re asking yourself, ‘What kind of people do I want to hang out with?’ And particularly: ‘What kind of male friends do I have in my life that I really value?'” CBS Announces Fall Schedule for New and Returning Daytime Shows The actor was thrilled with the example Colter sets on the show. “I think we’ve crafted a character that is so emotionally evolved, and he really does want to get to the root of why people do things,” Hartley continued. “The facts are that [executive producer] Ken Olin and I set out to do a show that was in fact a throwback. We wanted a new spin on a procedural, meaning our character would evolve over time.” AutoCamp Hartley added: “He would not just remain the same exact person every single week. We were hopeful people would like it. People ended up loving it. The amount of videos I’ve seen [that are] literally trashing the pros, the troupe, the hosts and judges,” Arnold, 31, said in a TikTok video shared Thursday, September 18. “It’s making me sick. I literally feel sick to my stomach. You understand that these are real people, right?” She continued, “This isn’t some made-up TV show, where they’re playing characters. This is not Conrad, Belly and Jeremiah [from The Summer I Turned Pretty], where we can just comment on their decisions and their choices and their lives.” DWTS season 34 premiered on Tuesday, September 16, soon sparking a flood of social media criticism about lackluster choreography or low scores.
