I read recently that 34 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions would be saved if everyone in the U.S. switched to cold water wash cycles when doing laundry. This got me energized to share some laundry tips. Laundry is something we do on a regular basis, so altering this ongoing habit can really make a significant impact. It’s intuitive, and what our parents use to do — cold water washing, maximizing the water usage by filling an entire full load, and then air-drying unless tumble are necessary, best practices that can really make a difference for the planet and also your pocketbook. If you can’t manage a full load, some machines have a load size option (aka small, medium, large) so select the former ones to opt for less water. If you do not have this ability with your unit, try to use a full load to avoid water wasting. The same rule applies to the dryer. According to the EPA, this can save up to $40 a year per household. Obviously, there are some exceptions to this, like diapers, and a few garments that may need the occasional high-temperature wash. But, washing full loads in your washer can save 3,400 gallons of water a year. Clothes will even last longer if air-dried since it’s gentler on the garments. Nowadays, most washers and dryers on the market are energy efficient—a nice increase of 88% from 1983. High-efficiency washing machines cost less to operate, use less detergent, and save water. Your local power utility company may even offer a rebate for purchasing energy-efficient washers as well as Energy Star Certified dryers. Call them up or check out their website to inquire. Aside from having an energy-efficient washing/drying appliance, another component I am mindful of is laundry detergent, as wastewater from these machines either flows into a septic tank in your backyard (where it then seeps back into the ground) or is sent to a wastewater treatment plant through a sewer system. At most wastewater treatment plants, water is filtered and treated with various components, then eventually discharged to a water body, here in LA it’s the Santa Monica Bay. Some wastewater treatments recycle their wastewater, but the majority are not there yet. So, think about what kinds of products you are using to wash your clothes as this water eventually makes its way to the ocean. This is how I try to reduce my impact when doing laundry: I smell my clothes and always take a second look to make sure it actually needs to be washed. Things like denim, sweaters, and dresses can be worn a few times before washing. I always use cold water. My go-to soap for years has been Eco Nuts soap berries. These little soap berries work great, are naturally biodegradable, economical (the box lasts 100 loads!), and come in a box without any plastic wrapping. I’m obsessed with them! Pop a few berries in the little cotton pouch they provide and throw them into your wash load. Since wastewater can flow to the ocean, it’s important to use a Guppy Bag for your synthetic-fiber based clothing items. Guppy Bag prevents microfiber pollution. It basically acts as a filter; otherwise tiny plastic fibers will make their way to the waterways and harm our precious marine life. I place items like my yoga pants and sports bras in it for the wash cycle and then pull them out of the bag to air dry. I installed a drying rack and use it all the time. Bedsheets, Bear’s clothes, my clothes you name it. I love it because it unfolds off the wall, so it’s an easy way to save space and air-dry at the same time. But air-drying can be done in so many low-maintenance forms whether it’s out in the sunshine or in a small rack un-folded by hand. Check out this compact cute wood one. There are some fabrics like jeans or towels that might be stiff/crunchy air-dried from the get-go, so for those items, I’ll throw them in the dryer for about 5 minutes to fluff the fibers, then I take them out to air dry. We have a greywater system installed in our home for our bath/shower/sink. You can read all about it here. We missed the boat on connecting it to our laundry machine. But you can! It depends on the plumbing. But if you do it, it means the water from laundry/shower/sink etc. is recycled to water fruit trees and more instead of being wasted.

If you haven’t tried sunchokes yet, they’re sometimes called Jerusalem artichokes and are a rich source of healthy prebiotic fiber for your microbiome and they’re very yummy. They have a creamy texture and sweet flavor. If you can’t find lotus root in your local store, ask the store to start carrying it. You can also buy dried lotus root…or just make the dish without it. I made this without the lotus root and it was still delicious. This dish tastes so good, and is SO good for you. Prep Time: 15 minutes | Cook Time: 20 minutes | Yields: 5 servings Ingredients 1 4″ piece of lotus root (about 1/2 of a medium root) 3 small or 1 large sunchokes (also called Jerusalem artichokes) thinly sliced 2 thick leeks (white park only), sliced into thick half-moons 2 garlic cloves, pressed or minced 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tsp shoyu or 3 pinches fine sea salt 1 tbsp maple syrup Directions Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Place all vegetables and garlic in a bowl. Add the oil, and toss to coat. Spread the veggies onto a baking sheet. Roast the vegetables for 12 minutes, then sprinkle with the shoyu and syrup. Stir to coat. Return the vegetables to the oven, and roast an additional 10 minutes. At this point, check to see if the vegetables are tender and becoming golden. If not, return to the over for 5 to 10 minutes longer. Serve warm.

As much as we all rejoice in the blooms, blossoms and greenery, an early spring means more peskly pollen. And, for some people, it can also trigger some pretty uncomfortable allergy symptoms like sneezing, coughing, runny noses, and just general discomfort. For immediate relief, while we can’t control the amount or type of pollen (or other allergens) in our outdoor environments, we can take steps to reduce and remove indoor allergens and other toxins that bring down immunity and can make us more susceptible to allergy symptoms. Allergy symptoms are one of the ways the body alerts us that our toxic burden is too high. Our extensive exposure to harmful chemicals in our air, water, food, products, homes, schools and workplaces is derailing and shutting down our ability to adapt to our natural environment. When you remove and reduce your exposure to toxins, many times allergies to natural pollens and foods disappear. Client after client has reported this to me. Here are 16 simple cleaning tips for allergy sufferers, or anyone interested in creating a healthier home by improving indoor air quality and breathing easier. 1: Clean Up Your Air Quality Even though people are buying non-toxic products right and left, most people still have products with harmful chemicals sitting throughout their homes. Even if these toxic products are not being used, they impact the air quality. Think about how you can smell the products in the cleaning and pesticide aisle of the store. Those products are not only closed, they are also sealed… yet you can smell toxic VOCs emitting from the bottles. The same thing happens in your home creating a low-level chemical soup your body has to constantly detoxify. Exposure to harmful chemicals impacts our immune system. Tossing these toxic products increases our ability to adapt and allergic reactions are reduced or are eliminated! 2: Clean Up Your Diet Foundational to a healthy diet – regardless of whether you are going vegetarian, paleo, gluten-free, dairy free, keto, or raw – is removing harmful chemicals from your food. For example, gluten-free products that claim to be healthy and organic many times are full of harmful chemicals. Eating organic, whole foods takes pressure off your immune system and is life-changing. This is especially true if you were eating tons of processed foods like I was. I grew up with debilitating allergies that no treatment, allergy shot protocol, or medication alleviated. I was miserable regardless. Yet, one of the unexpected byproducts of changing my diet was the complete disappearance of allergies bar one, an allergy to cedar, which took a little more time and effort. No more shots, no more Rast blood tests, or skin prick testing, no more runny nose and itchy eyes. I was set free! 3: Clean Often To reduce pollen exposure, allergy sufferers will benefit from cleaning their homes more than once a week… at least during allergy season or flare-ups. Now, if you’re thinking: “how the heck am I going to find time to clean more?” Know that we’re not suggesting you do a full clean every day or even every other day. The main thing to focus on is removing allergens by wiping down and vacuuming or mopping high-traffic areas daily. This includes your bedroom, entryway, and living room for example. We’ll offer some tips on how to do this quickly and efficiently, including our favorite time-saving cleaning tools coming up. 4: Dust Properly And Thoroughly Dust is an allergen in and of itself. And when combined with pollen for example, can create a double-whammy of itchy eyes, sneezing, runny noses, etc. The easiest way to deal with this is by using a microfiber cloth/mop dampened with Branch Basics Streak Free or HEPA vacuuming to remove versus spread dust. Unscented disposable Swiffers are another effective option. You can do this as often as daily or a few times a week to dramatically improve indoor air quality by reducing dust. Be sure to get the obvious and not-so-obvious spots like lamps, pictures, mirrors, window sills and fans. 5: Use A High-Quality Air Purifier An indoor air purifier can make a world of difference for allergy sufferers or anyone concerned about their health. We go over this in depth in: How To Choose The Best Home Air Purifier, but the main thing is you want a brand that removes VOCs, PM2.5 (fine particles like smoke and pollen), biological contaminants, asbestos, and lead. You also want a product containing a true medical-grade HEPA filter that removes 99.97% of particulates at 0.3 microns in diameter. That not only takes care of pollen, but also those other pesky toxins listed above. 6: A Certified Sealed HEPA Vacuum Is A Treat for Removing Allergens Oftentimes allergy sufferers give up on regular vacuuming because it doesn’t seem to help, OR they feel worse during and right after vacuuming. Why would that be? When you vacuum with a non-HEPA vacuum or a non-sealed HEPA vacuum it releases back a good portion of the dust, dander and allergens back into the air. Meaning, it can make your air quality worse than before you vacuumed. Allergies are often exacerbated after vacuuming. This is why investing in a certified sealed HEPA vacuum is important to those with allergies (and everyone else who wants to reduce dust levels). These units are completely contained systems, meaning no invisible dust and particulates will re-escape into your home. This is why abatement companies, for example, only use sealed HEPA vacuums when remediating homes for mold or other toxins. Check out our favorite brands in: The Best Vacuums For Non-Toxic Living. If a HEPA vacuum isn’t in the cards right now, consider renting one periodically or keep your windows open and air purifier cranked up when you are vacuuming and change the canister often. 7: Pay Extra Attention To Bedding Throw pillows, blankets, and stuffed animals are great for decorating… and for trapping allergens. To minimize this problem, consider simplifying your bedroom decor down to the basics. For example, washable shams are a great alternative to throw pillows. In addition, be sure to wash your quilt, duvet cover, duvet in hot water with Branch Basics Laundry or another non-toxic laundry soap to kill dust mites once a week during pollen season or allergy flare-ups. HEPA vacuuming your mattress once a month is another great way to keep bedroom allergens at bay. 8: Don’t Stop Opening Your Windows This may sound counterintuitive, but opening your windows for just a few minutes a day is one of the best things you can do to improve indoor air quality. Yes, some pollen will get in. But a daily fresh air exchange is essential for dispelling dust, household toxins, and other allergens. In other words: the benefits outweigh the risks. Since pollen counts tend to peak mid-day, it’s generally best to open your windows first thing in the morning and in the evening. 9: Break Up With Fragrance Fragrance is ubiquitous in most American homes. It’s also one of the world’s top allergens. The single word “fragrance” on an ingredient list is a toxic red flag that represents a proprietary fragrance recipe containing potentially hundreds of harmful chemicals. The chemicals in fragrance recipes have been found to be asthmagens (trigger asthma), carcinogens (cause cancer), endocrine disruptors (impact hormones), neurotoxins (affect our minds, moods, and movement), and obesogens, (trigger metabolic syndrome, diabetes, and make us gain weight regardless of diet or exercise). These chemicals bring down our immunity and can irritate the eyes, lungs, nasal passages, and entire respiratory system which heightens your sensitivity to other allergens. So imagine trying to clean to reduce your allergies while unknowingly spraying a bunch of fragranced products into the air… while you’re wearing perfume… and doing laundry with that signature “fresh scent” detergent. Opt for cleaning, laundry, candles, air fresheners, and personal care products that are fragrance-free. Learn more in: How To Remove Synthetic Fragrance From Your Home. 10: Declutter Your Home The less stuff you have, the less dust can accumulate on hard-to-clean surfaces like piles of paper, books or knick-knacks. We love the Marie Kondo method because it’s simple, you can take it step-by-step and it works. Buy the book, try the course, hire a consultant… whatever it takes, your life will be truly changed. 11: Keep Outside Entryways Clean Pollen and other allergens can accumulate in breezeways, doorsteps, etc. To help, either sweep (with a mask), pressure wash or spray/hose down the area regularly. It’s also a good idea to shake out your welcome mat outdoors regularly. 12: Clean Mold Without Bleach Mold and mildew can cause and/or contribute to all kinds of allergies. Thus, it’s a good idea to pay extra attention to mold or mildew in showers, bathtubs, washing machines and other damp places. One mistake people make is turning to bleach or bleach-based products to remove mold. Not only is bleach extremely toxic (and an EPA-registered pesticide), per OSHA 1 and the EPA 2 it’s actually not recommended for mold anymore! That’s because bleach doesn’t remove mold. It acts like a disinfectant and only kills surface mold. Dead mold can cause allergic reactions in people, so it is not enough to simply kill the mold. According to the EPA, mold should be removed by scrubbing the surface with soap and water. Fortunately, you can remove mold and mildew in your showers, sinks, counters, front loader and more using Branch Basics Bathroom, plus Oxygen Boost if you want even more cleaning power. To do so, spray and scrub the surface until clean and dry completely with a towel. If you desire to disinfect (note, disinfecting isn’t always recommended) then you can use Distilled White Vinegar or Hydrogen Peroxide. We outline the whole process in: How To Clean Mold On Grout And Showers Without Toxic Bleach, How To Clean And Detoxify Your Washer And Dryer, and 5 Tips For Preventing Mold And Mildew In Your Front Loader. 13: Wash Curtains And Clean Blinds Regularly Window treatments can be a hotbed of trapped allergens, so it’s wise to clean them regularly during pollen season. Some (but not all) curtains can be washed on a gentle cycle using Branch Basics Laundry. If you’re unsure of the fabric, consider damp dusting them or gently HEPA vacuuming using an upholstery brush. Blinds can be dusted with a microfiber duster, cloth, or blind-specific duster (we have a product recommendation for you in tip #16). 14: Change Air Filters Once A Month And Use High Quality Filters If you have seasonal allergies or suspect you have allergens in your home, it’s wise to change your return air filters once per month versus the standard once every 3 months. In addition, some whole home air purification systems require a monthly change out of HVAC filters. We highly recommend Filtrete air filters which contain zero antibacterial or chemical treatments. To save money, consider buying them in bulk from your local price club (Costco has great buys on these). This simple trick alone can make a significant difference to your indoor air quality and allergy symptoms. 15: Keep A No-Shoes-Indoor Policy It may seem like a small thing, but shoes can track in a lot of allergens and toxins. Research has shown shoes can harbor things like pollen, pesticides, large amounts of harmful bacteria, fecal matter, dust, heavy metals and more. These toxins will not all necessarily cause an allergic reaction. But they will drag down your immune system which can make you more prone to allergies… or make them worse. The easiest way to break the indoor shoe habit is to place a shoe basket, either outside your door or directly inside your door and label it “Shoes”. That way, everyone remembers to kick their shoes in the basket upon entry. It’s also helpful to give each family member a pair of indoor shoes. When it comes to visitors, make your shoe basket super obvious and just ask them politely to take off their shoes. It’s may also a good idea to have some clean socks handy to lend, offer fun kid-friendly shoe covers or have your Branch Basics All Purpose ready to spray on soles for those who either can’t go without shoes or are uncomfortable doing so. 16: Save Time And Effort With The Right Cleaning Tools Cleaning more frequently to remove allergens is a lot less cumbersome with the right tools. Oxygen Boost for laundry brightening HIWARE Window Blind Cleaner with Reusable Microfiber Sleeves BOOMJOY Extendable Microfiber Duster Baseboard Buddy with reusable pads Magic Window Track Cleaner Cosywell Mop Slippers – Stick these on the kids and let them clean the floors, or put on your favorite music and slide To Recap A combination of frequent cleaning of high-traffic areas, utilizing a good air purifier, HEPA vacuuming, ditching fragranced and other chemical-based products in favor of non-toxic products, decluttering, keeping a no-shoe-indoor policy, and tossing the toxins to support immunity by improving indoor air quality and your diet is a perfect recipe for improving allergy symptoms (or even eliminating them altogether).

The Atlanta police department has released audio of the 911 call received prior to the passing of Kenneth Edward Bailey, also known as Young Scooter. Young Scooter On Monday, March 31, the Atlanta police department released audio of the 911 call. Furthermore, the call totaled over 10 minutes and featured a woman requesting police and EMS assistance. To note, the woman identified herself as the “neighborhood watch.” “There was literally a shooting,” she said. “…There is literally a whole domestic dispute going on. There’s like seven guys that live in this house… these guys are like selling drugs in and out of the house… The situation that’s going on right now, this girl doesn’t have on any clothes — they threw her outside [and] he was fighting the girl… I’m not sure what they were fighting over…” As the call continued, the woman alleged that another person accompanying the girl came to the residence, and a shooting broke out and was currently in progress. “I believe the girl was hurt — she was, like, bleeding profusely — blood everywhere,” the caller alleged. Furthermore, the caller insisted that the fight involved one man with a “caramel complexion and a low haircut” from the residence. Ultimately, the 911 call concluded with the caller becoming frustrated with dispatchers’ repeated questions along with their request for an EMS from Grady Memorial Hospital. Police Recently Commented On The Claims Of The 911 Caller To note, on Saturday, March 29, Atlanta police held a press conference to discuss the incident and the subsequent death with the press. “There was a 911 call of a dispute with shots fired and a female being drug back into the residence,” an officer shared. “When officers arrived, a male initially opened the door -[and] closed the door on the officers’ face without communicating completely. That’s when the officers established a perimeter, and the two males fled. Why they fled? Obviously, we can’t speak for them.” Furthermore, the officer noted that police were unable to locate the woman allegedly involved in the dispute. “We have not been able to substantiate any of that,” the officer noted while speaking about the claims of an alleged woman being harmed at the residence. “Which is also a part of our investigation.” More Details On Young Scooter’s Passing & The Atlanta Police Department’s Investigation Into The Incident It remains unclear what time the 911 call was received. However, per Atlanta police, units arrived at the scene at 5:23 p.m. As The Shade Room previously reported, a man, later identified as Young Scooter, was allegedly seen by police fleeing the scene along with another male who allegedly returned to the residence. Per Police, Scooter allegedly “jumped two fences” and apparently suffered an injury to his leg. Per police, he was transported to a hospital for treatment. However, he ultimately succumbed to the injury. To note, police have reiterated that the rapper’s injury was allegedly sustained while he was fleeing the scene. And no gunfire from police was initiated. Furthermore, March 28 marked the date of Young Scooter’s 39th birthday. Furthermore, police reportedly responded to calls about a “disturbance.” Ultimately, it was discovered that a “driver of the Miami-Dade Transit bus” got into an argument or disagreement with “passengers who were onboard.” At some point during the interaction, police say, the bus driver “pulled out a gun and opened fire.” Furthermore, the gunfire struck two individuals. According to USA Today, a total of six shots were heard by witnesses. More Details About The Reported Argument & The Subsequent Investigation Into The Miami-Dade Transit Incident Per WPLG Local 10, a witness alleged that the incident “started when the driver refused to let a man board the bus with a stolen bike.” In turn, the passenger with the bike allegedly made threats against the driver. Then, the driver pulled out a weapon and struck the passenger while also injuring a bystander on the bus, the witness added. According to the outlet, both passengers were airlifted to HCA Florida Aventura Hospital in critical condition. However, they each succumbed to their wounds. At this time, police have not confirmed whether either of the now-deceased passengers were armed or whether the bus driver will face charges. To note, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works has reportedly told WPLG Local 10, “Drivers are not allowed to be armed.” Lastly, PEOPLE reports that the identities of the two victims and bus driver have not been publicly released. President Donald Trump said Sunday that he’s “not joking” about trying to serve a third term. This was the clearest indication that he is considering ways to breach a constitutional barrier to continuing to lead the country after his second term ends at the beginning of 2029. “There are methods which you could do it,” Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News from Mar-a-Lago, his private club. Later, on Air Force One from Florida to Washington, President Donald Trump elaborated to reporters. “I have had more people ask me to have a third term, which in a way is a fourth term because the other election, the 2020 election, was totally rigged.” As you might already know, Trump lost that election to Democrat Joe Biden. Still, Trump added: “I don’t want to talk about a third term now because no matter how you look at it, we’ve got a long time to go.” NBC’s Kristen Welker asked Trump if Vice President JD Vance was one potential lane to a third term. Welker asked whether Vance would run for the top job and pass “the baton” to Trump. “Well, that’s one,” Trump responded. “But there are others too. Nonetheless, his comments seem to reflect his desire to maintain power. As is well documented, President Trump has been known to violate democratic traditions, including four years ago when he tried to overturn the election he lost to Biden. Among political leaders speaking out against the third-term conversation was Rep. Daniel Goldman. The representative served as lead counsel for Trump’s first impeachment. “This is yet another escalation in his clear effort to take over the government and dismantle our democracy,” said a statement from the New York Democrat. “If Congressional Republicans believe in the Constitution, they will go on the record opposing Trump’s ambitions for a third term.” Steve Bannon called for the president to run again during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference last month. “We want Trump in ’28,” he said. Bannon is a former Trump strategist who runs the right-wing “War Room” podcast. Meanwhile, Jeremy Paul, a constitutional law professor at Boston’s Northeastern University, said, “There are no credible legal arguments for him to run for a third term.” Derek Muller, a professor of election law at Notre Dame, agrees. Muller noted that the 12th Amendment, which was ratified in 1804, says: “No person constitutionally ineligible to the office of President shall be eligible to that of Vice-President of the United States.” Muller said that indicates that if Trump is not eligible to run for president again because of the 22nd Amendment, he is not eligible to run for vice president, either. “I don’t think there’s any ‘one weird trick’ to getting around presidential term limits,” Muller said. The exhibition is the largest and richest in works and documents ever dedicated to Elio Fiorucci and proposes the various stages of the creative genius of such a multifaceted figure: a brilliant entrepreneur, the very first cool hunter and the founder of the brand that revolutionised costume, fashion and the contemporary art scene in Italy from the 1960s onwards. The exhibition is proposed as a retrospective with a clear biographical intent, encompassing the human, entrepreneurial and cultural vicissitudes of Elio Fiorucci, taking a new look at his figure. It also presents the research developed by academics and collaborators, recounting Fiorucci’s unique vision and a series of experiments that revolutionised Italian and global fashion and marketing. The exhibition focuses in particular on the designer’s life and biography. The 1996 episode, “Anything You Want,” features an uncomfortable moment where Mary Camden (Biel) asks her older brother Matt (Watson) to teach her how to kiss a boy. 2025 is a big year for TV — but which shows do we definitely know are coming back for more seasons? Apple TV+ surprised viewers by renewing Bad Monkey after the ending left the show’s future unclear. Based on the novel of the same name by Carl Hiaasen, Bad Monkey follows former police detective Andrew Yancy (Vince Vaughn) who gets demoted to a restaurant inspector before getting sucked into a murder investigation when a severed arm is pulled out of the water. I have met all of them at this point and worked with the majority of them,” Atkins previously told Us. “I really wanted to work with Damon Wayans Jr. again [after Dance Flick] and I had always wanted to work with Damon Wayans, so that’s really all I needed to know. It was an immediate yes.” Best Love Triangles in TV and Movie History Over the Years Atkins says she’s not in a rush to see Ivy and Poppa get together. “Initially when we were beginning the series, we thought it would happen sooner. But I think that there’s something really beautiful about them becoming friends first and that they really grow in respect for one another and admiration for one another,” she explained at the time. “Also in being able to see behind the curtain of one another, they have a little bit more trepidation and a little bit more caution about leaping forward.” Atkins noted that both Ivy and Poppa are starting to develop an “awareness” of their connection, adding, “He’s gaining an awareness of like, ‘Well, what do I get? Costa Rica authorities say carbon monoxide was found in New York Yankee star Brett Gardner’s family’s hotel room during an investigation into the death of his 14-year-old son, Miller Gardner. Miller died on March 21 while he was vacationing with his family in Costa Rica. A preliminary cause of death was ruled to be asphyxia “after a possible intoxication after apparently ingesting some food” by Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigative Agency (OIJ) on March 24. However, Randall Zúñiga, General Director of the OIJ, said in a Monday, March 31, virtual communication to the press that Miller “may have died from inhaling” carbon monoxide. The OIJ official confirmed “high levels of carbon monoxide contamination” were detected in the family’s hotel room as part of testing carried out by a “specialized hazardous atmosphere team” from the Fire Department and forensic engineering performed by OIJ investigators. Yankees’ Aaron Judge Calls Brett Gardner a ‘Second Dad' After Son's Death “It’s also important to note that next to [the family’s] room there is a specialized machine room, from which it is believed some form of contamination may have reached the guest rooms, potentially causing the incident,” he theorized. Zúñiga said that the OIJ notified both the local Fire Department and the Ministry of Health in order for them to “take appropriate action regarding this confirmed contamination in the room.” He reiterated that OIJ was working in tandem with the FBI in the U.S. as they “wait for the final results from forensic toxicology.” Courtesy of Hunter Gardner/Instagram “Nonetheless, the initial investigative findings indicate that the incident was due to this contamination, with levels as high as 600 parts per million detected—when the appropriate level in this case should be zero,” Zúñiga said. A hotel spokesperson responded to the OIJ’s carbon monoxide reports in a Monday statement to Us Weekly, saying, “We deeply regret the recent death of a minor at our facilities due to unconfirmed causes. We express our sincere condolences to the child’s family and loved ones in this time of immense grief. “We are respectfully and diligently collaborating with the Costa Rican judicial authorities, who have assumed the corresponding investigation,” the statement continued. “We trust that the forensic process will objectively, clearly, and conclusively clarify the real causes of this unfortunate incident. For the time being, the investigation will continue with the analysis of the various theories put forward by the judicial authorities.” The hotel representative added that Arenas Del Mar Beachfront & Rainforest Resort would “refrain from commenting on possible hypotheses or unconfirmed causes” while the investigation into Miller’s death is ongoing. “Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our guests and employees, and we reaffirm our ongoing commitment to the highest standards in the operation of our facilities,” the hotel said. “We appreciate your understanding regarding the sensitivity of this situation.” Restaurant Where Gardner Family Dined Days Before Miller's Death Responds New York Yankees star Brett, 41, and his wife, Jessica Gardner, made the tragic announcement earlier this month they had lost their 14-year-old son. “With heavy hearts, we are saddened to announce the passing of our youngest son, Miller. He was 14 years old and has left us far too soon after falling ill along with several other family members while on vacation,” they pair said in a joint statement. “We have so many questions and so few answers at this point, but we do know that he passed away peacefully in his sleep on the morning of Friday, March 21st.” They continued: “Miller was a beloved son and brother and we cannot yet comprehend our life without his infectious smile. He loved football, baseball, golf, hunting, fishing, his family and his friends. He lived life to the fullest every single day.” On Sunday, March 30, a spokesperson for the Judicial Investigation Agency’s Press Office told Us Weekly Miller’s body had been discharged but “out of respect for the family it has not been disclosed who it was released to.” Us subsequently confirmed that a body cannot be released from a morgue in Costa Rica unless a family member or a legal representative submits an official request. Miller’s autopsy is expected to be completed in approximately two months. The Gardner family have chosen a way to keep Miller’s memory alive during this tragic time. An obituary published in Charleston, South Carolina’s Post and Courier on behalf of the Gardners asked that donations be made in Miller’s honor to the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a non-profit that fulfills the wishes of young people battling life-threatening medical conditions. “The Gardners have seen the organization’s impact firsthand on numerous occasions and have always been deeply moved by the hope, strength, and inspiration each wish provides for children and families facing difficult times,” Miller’s obituary read. “In this time of unimaginable loss, the family prays that joy and healing will come to others who share their grief.” Hotel Owner Says Miller Gardner’s Death Has Led to 'Huge' Cancellations The family went on, “Miller’s time here with them was brief but his spirit will carry on forever through those who were impacted by the way he lived. Miller was so blessed with experiences and friendships in his 14 years, and he would want other children to have the opportunity to create their own wonderful memories.” Miller’s Pinewood Prep junior varsity baseball team from Summerville, South Carolina, made its return to the field for the first time since his death with a 5-0 win over Trinity Collegiate School last week. Pinewood Prep coach Phil Hartig told The Post and Courier that it was “good to get back out [there] on the field.” “These boys need to get together and be together. She pleaded no contest and was sentenced to two years of probation, fined and ordered to take a defensive driving course. The following year, she reportedly checked into a rehabilitation center. Despite seeking treatment, Delaney continued to publicly struggle. In March 2025, Delaney made headlines after she was arrested on a charge of felony assault following an altercation with partner James Morgan. A local CBS outlet reported that the event’s teleprompter was malfunctioning and Delaney seemingly went off-script which led to her struggling to deliver the speech. It was like the perfect storm for something to go wrong. And then it goes viral! There’s just nothing you can do [but] deal with it, right?” Hit and Run Lawsuit In January 2024, Delaney was sued by a man named Dzhamal Badalov for allegedly crashing into him on his motorcycle while driving in Los Angeles back in 2022. According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly at the time, Badalov claimed that Delaney was “swerving through the streets” and “driving erratically” before he was “thrown off his motorcycle and [landed] onto the street.” The filing stated that Delaney “appeared intoxicated” and allegedly attempted to drive away after the crash. After being stopped by bystanders, she called someone on her phone, who allegedly suggested Delaney pay him off rather than call the cops. Badalov claimed he refused payment, and Delaney allegedly fled the scene. In June 2024, Delaney was ordered to mediation and given a deadline of May 2025, per Radar Online. If a settlement is not reached, a jury trial is scheduled for September 2025. Alex embarks on a road trip to complete a list of life goals she originally wrote as a 13-year-old, in order to access a mystery inheritance left by her late mom. Along the way, Alex jams out with her family’s lawyer, Brad (Kyle Allen), and his girlfriend Nina (Maria Jung) to “That’s Not My Name” — with the banger becoming an anthem for Alex that recurs throughout her journey. Washington Mystics forward Shakira Austin got honest about the realities of life on social media — and why the drama between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese only made things worse. “We’re always going to feel like we have to deal with ignorant people,” Austin, 24, exclusively told Us Weekly via her partnership with Tylenol. “Unfortunately, as women we’re just on the back end of that stick. We just keep fighting and trying to find our real communities, trying to find people who support us. In a sense, just ignoring those trolls.” Austin added, “It’s gotten worse in the past year for sure. You know, the whole Caitlin and Angel thing. It’s getting pretty bad.” Clark, 23, and Reese, 22, both rookies last season, are two of the biggest names in women’s basketball. Their rivalry began in college — when Clark was at Iowa and Reese was at LSU — and has continued into the professional ranks. Stephen A. I’ve gotten pretty close. I’m crossing almost a year post-op. Just being able to use as many resources for not only my physical health, but mental health. This grant will allow me to tap into other fields that the WNBA might not be able to provide solely.” Austin and the Mystics open the 2025 WNBA season on May 16 against the Atlanta Dream.
