Being a mom is absolutely the best. It’s my life’s greatest joy and the love I feel for my son is off the charts. That said, motherhood is, of course, a huge balancing act. I have never had a nanny or night nurse. Bear has only been with a babysitter infrequently. I can’t even remember the last time, honestly! His Dad and I share time and care for Bear ourselves. I know that may seem strange compared to other celebrity families, but this was important to me. Likewise, our home is media-free the majority of the time, and since I’m a single mom, that means no TV babysitter. So when Bear is not with his dad, it’s just me and my kid. And it’s full-on. There were times when Bear was younger when he wasn’t in school where it felt overwhelming at times. I couldn’t think or take a pee without being needed! A sip of water? Hell no. I know these difficult moments pass, but there were times when it felt like just hearing my son’s stories and voice made me cringe—even when I also love him so much. But then, after I’d sleep well, I’d notice that everything would change. I would feel more present, centered, and relaxed. Brushing his hair or teeth and all the sweet care—the simplest things become so joyful, caring for our dogs together. Feeding him, hearing his stories, picking out clothes for the next day, it’s all pure joy when I’m rested. Being a good mama requires every ounce of my being, even now that Bear is a teenager. What I know for sure is that getting quality sleep is so critical to being the most loving, available mama. And eating a healthy Kind Diet is instrumental in getting that quality sleep. When I eat well, I sleep well! When my diet and sleep are in alignment, every moment with Bear feels like the greatest thing on earth. But if I break from this, it’s so easy to slip into feeling drained, impatient, not present, and overwhelmed. The moment I reprioritize nourishing food and commit myself to good sleep, my world changes. I can savor every moment with my son. And, holy moly, it is magical. Most days, taking care of him and making his food, hearing his stories, and, of course, snuggling with him is the most divine, delicious thing ever. I feel so empowered and deeply fulfilled. Even my mom admin work is fulfilling because I know I’m doing the best I can for him, whether that’s researching and meeting with 3 orthodontists before I find the one that feels right, finding the best organic underwear, or the non-flame-retardant organic PJs. Being his mom is an irreplaceable high–the ultimate love. But sometimes a Mama needs to pee without a plus one. It becomes so clear that those school days or play dates allow us mamas to live in our bodies for some hours, with nobody clawing (lovingly!) at our breasts or legs or arms. It’s there in those moments we can recharge and attend to our passion projects. In my case, I have so much work to do. So many things I care so much about that make me ME. During lockdown, this was the work–for all of us mamas–finding space to be our own women selves, but without respites from the needs of our families. At times, it was challenging. As much as I want to prioritize getting to sleep, I all too often stay up and catch up on the hours of emails and texts I haven’t touched throughout the day. This is not healthy! The recharge that happens when I turn off the lights and noise is integral to who I wake up as the next morning. And when I do get to turn the computer and phone off at 9 or even 9:30 and just piddle, take a bath, read, omg, I feel amazing! It’s crazy silly how much that simple act feels so good. That self-care. So, why can’t I do it every night? Because I would never get anything done at all. But I keep trying. I see it as a huge success when I do it just even one day a week. And if it happens more than that, I’m really impressed with myself. Before Bear could read or spell what helped me a lot was keeping a list in the kitchen while cooking, and if he started telling me stories or had questions that required focus on my part, I would say I’m adding this to our bath list. So when I was done focusing on dinner we could discuss it at dinner or at bath time. I have found that having an inner monologue of pre-set responses for Bear when I’m tapped out is tremendously useful, too. I can redirect him to write me a story, draw me a picture, chop the herbs, fold some tee-shirts, play with the dogs, practice a silly dance, or call a friend when I have my work to do. I’m a highly sensitive person, and sometimes that means I can’t fully take Bear’s needs in while I’m hungry or busy cooking. I’ve learned that saying; “Hey Bear—You do your work, and I’ll do my work!” in a loving voice is something he can hear and absorb. When we come back together—I can savor every morsel of being with him and be truly present. I realize this may not work for families with more than one child, since someone always wants something! I have learned from my kind parenting Mama friends that having a loose daily schedule of activity options helps. For example, one of my friends with three children writes up a list of daily “challenges” for her boys in the context of a schedule that includes things like: Teach your brothers a skill, build every puzzle in the house, do a creative LEGO challenge, write a graphic novel, build a pillow fort, crafting hour, etc. She finds these schedules allow some structure to an otherwise unstructured time in parenting history. These are some media-free family activities that have been pure gold for us, and may work for your family, too: Jumping on a trampoline (even on a mini one since that is what we have!) Walking the dogs Hiking Cooking together Doing puzzles Having a jump rope contest Making housekeeping activities fun (chores can be cool: vacuuming, cleaning the counters and organizing/getting rid of stuff to donate) Having dance parties! Reading together: Bear reads to me and I read to him. Snuggling and cuddles Try keeping your own list of suggestions for when you need a break so that you don’t default to exasperation. South Carolina man Michael Thomas Lloyd will serve life in prison for killing 6-year-old Winston Hunter in a 2022 shooting. Gunshots rang out on May 13, 2022, hitting Hunter’s home and taking his life moments later. Two other men involved, Jeremiah Harley and Ethan Anderson, also admitted to the murder in 2024 and are now serving life sentences without parole. Lloyd and his crew allegedly fired at least 21 bullets into Winston Hunter’s home. Winston was lying on the couch watching TV when gunfire reportedly struck him in the head and wrist. First responders arrived shortly after, but found Winston dead at the scene. Prosecutors said Lloyd confessed to opening fire on the home because he thought it belonged to a drug dealer. Investigators recovered three firearms during the case, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division confirmed the weapons matched the shell casings found at the scene. Here’s How Cops Tracked Down The Men Behind The Deadly Shooting Investigators reviewed surveillance footage that showed a light-colored sedan speeding to and from the neighborhood around the time of the shooting. After the video circulated publicly, the Orangeburg County Sheriff’s Office received a tip from law enforcement in Ontario County, New York. Officers there pulled over a car that matched the description and detained two suspects, per WLTX. Investigators say Middleton was leaving the store when J.T. Schroeder, 18, allegedly kicked Middleton’s shopping cart while walking past him. What should’ve been a moment easily brushed off quickly spiraled out of control — witnesses told officers that an argument broke out, and it ended with Middleton allegedly stabbing Schroeder multiple times in front of shocked shoppers. Heartbroken Father Speaks After Teen’s Final Moments Schroeder was rushed to the hospital but sadly didn’t make it. His father later spoke to WJCL, saying he arrived at the scene to find “blood everywhere.” Through tears, he described his son as “never, ever confrontational unless he was confronted first.” The young man fought for his life overnight before being taken off life support on October 24. Schroeder’s family says he was an organ donor, giving life to others even in death. “I got over there as fast as I could and saw blood everywhere. He was literally stabbed over 10 times until he finally bled out and died,” his father shared. Delano Middleton’s Violent Past Comes Back To Light As for Middleton, records show this wasn’t his first run-in with the law. WJCL reports he has a long history of arrests for violent crimes and was out on probation when the stabbing occurred. Police arrested him a week later, charging him with murder. God please cover her…” More Details On The Tragic Passing Of Jamar Champ As The Shade Room previously reported, during the early hours of Tuesday, October 28, Masika Kalysha’s estranged husband, Jamar Champ, was the victim of a wrong-way driver who entered the Katy Freeway in Houston and crashed into his Cybertruck. Subsequently, the wrong-way driver’s car caught fire, and the Cybertruck spun into a semi — killing Champ at the scene. Hours afterward, Kalysha took to X, formerly known as Twitter, sharing that she had received the “worst news” of her life. That afternoon, Kalysha pleaded with the media to refrain from sharing the details of her husband’s accident. Not only did the Dolphins lose, 28-6, but the hometown crowd booed McDaniel, 42, and his team, as he became increasingly irate with his squad, which fell to 2-7 on the season. “You want to fix stuff, and yeah, it sucks. That sucks,” he told reporters after the game. “All of that does. But I think it’s a pretty consistent formula of fans enjoy winning and so our expectation is that we have to do the work and do the right things for fans to enjoy the experience and unfortunately, we didn’t do that tonight, so we got to get back to work to give them something to cheer about.” McDaniel’s sideline antics went viral on Thursday, when one of his players was called for a false start as the team was trying to convert a crucial 4th-and-1 early in the game. Horror fans will love the ’80s killer car classic Christine, while anyone interested in high-quality movies should check out Sorry, Baby, which is already on my list of the best 2025 movies. ‘Mirror Mirror’ (2012) 2025 saw Disney’s big-budget live-action remake of Snow White flop hard at the box office, but even if it had succeeded, it wouldn’t hold a candle to Mirror Mirror, a visually dazzling retelling of the beloved fairy tale. Directed by The Fall’s Tarsem, the 2012 fantasy film begins not as a Snow White story but rather an Evil Queen one. Soon, nerdy Arnie changes into a cool guy and even dates the beautiful new girl, Leigh Cabot (a pre-Baywatch Alexandra Paul). But Arnie also has an unhealthy relationship with Christine, which appears to be sentient — and jealous of anyone who gets between her and Arnie. Dennis is the only one who can pull Arnie back from the brink of madness, but is he strong enough to take on a possibly demonically possessed car? Former University of Kentucky competitive cheerleader Laken Snelling has been hit with new restrictions while living under house arrest after allegedly hiding her newborn baby’s body in a closet. Snelling, 21, has been ordered to wear an ankle monitor and was placed on home confinement, according to documents obtained by LEX18. The former cheerleader was ordered to permanently stay at her father’s home in Tennessee. Since posting a $100,000 bond on September 2, Snelling had been splitting time between her parents’ homes under a joint custody provision. Laken Snelling Ordered McDonald’s After Allegedly Concealing Birth of Baby Snelling must also contact Pretrial Services within seven days “to facilitate the commencement of electronic monitoring,” according to People. It is unclear why the judge suddenly instituted the new guidelines. Snelling is currently awaiting a grand jury trial in the death of her newborn on August 27. She was officially arrested on August 30 and charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence and concealing the birth of an infant. Snelling has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She waived her right to a preliminary trial during a court appearance on September 26. The cheerleader allegedly gave birth to the baby and then hid the body in a trash bag in the closet of her Lexington, Kentucky home. After a third party allegedly found a “blood-soaked towel on the floor and a plastic bag containing evidence of childbirth” in Snelling’s room, they called the police. When Snelling was eventually interviewed by authorities, she “admitted to giving birth” and to “concealing the birth by cleaning any evidence, placing all cleaning items used inside of a black trash bag, including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel.” Snelling alleged she passed out on top of the baby after giving birth, waking up to find it “blue and purple.” She believed the baby was alive at the time of birth, saying she heard a “whimper.” According to police records, the infant’s remains “appeared to be full term when discovered.” The infant’s death was ruled inconclusive and “extensive microscopic analyses are essential to determine the cause and manner of death,” according to a report from the Fayette County Coroner’s Office obtained by Us Weekly on September 4. “I understand the community’s concern and sensitivity surrounding the death of a child,” Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn said in the report. “We are conducting a thorough and methodical death investigation to ensure all facts are carefully considered.” A search of Snelling’s phone found that she had searched for “different things pertaining to pregnancy, images of her during labor, photos of her doing things ordinary pregnant women should not be doing and a concealed or hidden pregnancy.” Laken Snelling’s Roommates Heard Loud Noises at 4 a.m. on Day She Gave Birth According to records, some of the photos in Snelling’s phone had attempted to be deleted, leading police to theorize “other items could have also been deleted in an attempt to hide any evidence of the pregnancy, birth and newborn baby.” The investigation into the infant’s death remains ongoing, according to the Lexington Police Department. At the time of her arrest, Snelling was majoring in Interdisciplinary Disability Studies at the University of Kentucky and was a three-year member of the school’s STUNT competitive cheerleading team. A spokesperson for the University of Kentucky told Us on September 5 that Snelling “is no longer a student at the university and, as a result, is no longer a member of the STUNT team.”

We’re going back to work in a week and a half… We heard the audience and the fans and we’re bringing it to you next summer.” Despite the speedy return, Åkerman, 47, hasn’t read a single script yet. “Usually, you get a five-month writers’ room, but because it was such a wild success this summer, Netflix has said, ‘We need a summer release. We’re going to go back to work in November. It is the case that keeps me up at night,” executive producer Mandy Matney, whose podcast inspired the series, exclusively told Us Weekly. “It’s the case that I would like to solve.” Matney made a promise to Smith’s mother that she intends to keep. “I just always said, ‘I’m going to do my best. I don’t know if it’s going to lead to solving your son’s case but I’m going to try,'” she recalled. “Ever since then, I’ve been trying different ways to get Stephen’s story in the media and get people talking about what happened to Stephen.” Alex Murdaugh's High-Profile Murder Trial: Where Are the Key Players Now? She continued: “I know enough about the case to know and believe that people are out there that know exactly what happened to Stephen. Sean “Diddy” Combs was transferred to the federal prison in Fort Dix, New Jersey, where he will serve out the remainder of his four-year prison sentence. A spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed on Thursday, October 30, that the disgraced mogul, 55, was transferred to FCI Fort Dix, which is located in New Hanover Township. The facility is a low-security prison for men that houses around 4,000 inmates. Diddy is set to be released on May 8, 2028, per the Bureau of Prisons website. He could be released earlier, however, if he remains on good behavior and completes certain programs while incarcerated. Diddy has been behind bars at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York, since his September 2024 arrest. Despite pleading not guilty, he was convicted on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution and acquitted on two counts of sex trafficking and one count of racketeering conspiracy in July. Andrew has continuously denied the allegations. Giuffre sued Andrew for sexual abuse in 2021 and they settled outside of court the following year. (Giuffre died by suicide at age 41 this past April.) It’s funny, back in the day, we would always be, like, ‘Oh, we don’t know what the votes are, maybe they didn’t get the most,’ but legally? You can’t mess around with votes.” How Are Fan Votes and Judges’ Scores Factored Into ‘DWTS’ Eliminations? While Murgatroyd didn’t go further into the voting logistics or legalities, DWTS couples are eliminated based on a combination of fan votes — viewers can support each partnership up to 10 times per voting method — and judges’ scores. I’m not saying he’s the most technical dancer. Whitney Leavitt for me is the best dancer of the season by far. She is absolutely phenomenal, but I believe Robert Irwin is going to win. People just seem to really gravitate toward him and he’s so kind.” Murgatroyd’s husband, fellow former pro Maks Chmerkovskiy, could also see Irwin, 21, taking the trophy — or TikTok star Alix Earle. (Earle, 24, is partnered with Maks’ younger brother, Val Chmerkovskiy.) “I think it’s going to be a battle,” Maks, 45, told Us. “There’s also a huge TikTok component. You got some fans over here and you have some fans over here. You have some core fans of Dancing with the Stars, but there’s also been a very big impact of TikTok fans.
