Big Sheep Creek Byway lies near Dell, MT, 24 miles north of the Montana-Idaho state line. Along the length of this solitary route, you may pass only two or three cars. As you journey beneath the high rock cliffs of Big Sheep Canyon, look down into clear, deep pools of spring-fed Big Sheep Creek. The Rocky Mountains have hidden this southernmost point of Montana well, and it remains unchanged for those willing to explore the back country on the Big Sheep Creek Byway.
Getting to the Byway:
Take I-15 to Dell, then proceed south on the frontage road for 1.5 miles. Turn right onto Big Sheep Creek Road.
Navigating the Byway:
The byway starts in Dell at I-15. From Dell, head southwest along Big Sheep Creek Road. Follow the route as it curves northwards past the Beaverhead-Deerlodge National Forest and finally joins State Route 324, southeast of Grant, MT. where the byway ends.
